How many nights should you spend on Ukulhas?

Three nights gives you a short beach break, five leaves more time for island life and excursions, and seven lets you settle in for the week. If you're looking for a relaxed beach holiday, start by considering five nights: four full days to swim, explore and enjoy Ukulhas at your own pace.

The speedboat from Velana International Airport takes around 60 to 90 minutes, depending on sea conditions. Check your flights against the boat schedule before choosing your stay length, so you know how much time you'll have on the island.

Count full days as well as nights

Arrival and departure days may give you time on the island, but don't count on them as full holiday days. At Koimala Beach, check-in is at 14:00 and check-out at 12:00, so each travel day is shaped by the boat and those times. Start with the days between the journeys.

Stay lengthFull days between arrival and departureA useful choice if you want
3 nights2 daysA short beach stop with one main priority
5 nights4 daysSeveral beach days and space for another plan
7 nights6 daysA week based on Ukulhas, without another move

For example, arriving late on a three-night stay and leaving early after the third night gives you two full days between journeys. An earlier boat from the airport or a later flight home can add beach time around them.

The arrival-planning guide helps you check both connections before committing to room dates, especially when Ukulhas is one stop in a longer trip.

Three nights: make room for your main reason to come

A three-night stay can work well as a short island break or part of a longer Maldives trip. Spend your two full days at the beach, or choose one of Koimala's excursions and leave the other day free to explore.

If a particular trip is the reason for your visit, don't leave it to your last full day. Weather and sea conditions can change a plan, and a short stay gives you fewer alternative dates.

Five nights: beach days with time between plans

Five nights gives you four full days to mix beach time with an outing or two. You might choose a sandbank trip or manta snorkelling, leaving plenty of your visit for swimming and relaxing on Ukulhas.

You also have time for the island itself. Ukulhas is only around a kilometre long, so a walk through the village, a meal at an island café and a look at the old Friday mosque can fill an unhurried afternoon.

You can also leave a little room for plans made after you arrive. That flexibility is useful during the wetter monsoon, when the weather may shape your days. Our seasons guide explains what to consider.

Seven nights: unpack once for the week

A week gives you time to settle into island life. Return to a favourite café, spread your excursions across the stay and enjoy beach days without filling every afternoon. Choose seven nights if you'd like to stay in one place and explore at a more relaxed pace.

Is another island worth the move?

If you have a week in total, consider what you'd most enjoy about a second island. Another stop brings a new setting, but also another transfer and check-in. Compare the travel time and full cost of both options with our budget guide.

Before you commit to dates

Once you've found a stay length that suits you, check both speedboat connections against your flights. Then share your dates and guest numbers with Koimala.
